Other insights about getting your Florida real estate license

I am a licensed Managing Broker in Iowa and Illinois.  I got my license first in Iowa and had reciprocity to get my Broker license in Illinois, which I have had for a few years now.  Do I have reciprocity with Florida?

Asked by: Jason
You will want to double check with FREC, but you should be covered under their mutual recognition with Illinois since you are fully licensed there. Here are the details on the FREC website https://www.myfloridalicense.com/CheckListDetail.asp?SID=&xactCode=1011&clientCode=2501&XACT_DEFN_ID=747

I’m a licensed RE Broker in NYS for over 40 years. I clearly understand that FL is not reciprocal with NYS. Do I need the 63hour salesperson course or is there something else given my years of experience.

Asked by: John1024
You will need the full 63 hour course to earn your salesperson license. With your experience you could apply for a broker license, but that requires a 72-hour course. https://www.myfloridalicense.com/CheckListDetail.asp?SID=&xactCode=1012&clientCode=2501&XACT_DEFN_ID=345

I have a misdemeanor charge, doesthat automatically disqualify me?

Asked by: jhiram
Only the Florida Real Estate Commission can determine what will disqualify someone from a license. You will need to check with them.

I have an active real estate associate broker license in Maryland. I am planning to move to Tampa Florida area. How can I get Florida real estate license.

Asked by: Kevin
Florida doesn’t have mutual recognition with Maryland so you will have to complete the full 63-hours of education and pass the stat licensing exam. https://www.myfloridalicense.com/CheckListDetail.asp?SID=&xactCode=1011&clientCode=2501&XACT_DEFN_ID=747

I’m a RE  Broker in HI & need to either get an exception based on experience -or start from the beg in FL as a sales person. How FAST can I complete the course? Its a 63 hour course w/quizzes- can I do it in a few days or is there a MIN time requirement

Asked by: RE Broker
Florida’s commission does not require a set number of days in the course, so you can complete as quickly or slowly as you can master the material. The only time limitation is if you don’t pass the first attempt at the course final exam. If that happens you have to wait 30 days before taking the second attempt.

I have a Broker License in Massachusetts, and I am also licensed in Rhode Island. Does the reciprocity with Rhode Island apply to me if I live in Massachusetts or do I have to live in Rhode Island?

Asked by: Gemily
You will have to double check with FREC. From what I read on their website, I believe the mutual recognition will apply, but only FREC can make the final determination.

I'm a Canadian Citizen, am I able to apply and take the Florida real estate license exam? I can't seem to get a definitive answer.

Asked by: stefano
Florida’s commission (FREC) doesn’t list any residency requirement to receive a Florida real estate license. However, there is a requirement to have a social security number. So, if you can meet that requirement along with the others listed on this webpage, you should be eligible. https://www.myfloridalicense.com/CheckListDetail.asp?SID=&xactCode=1010&clientCode=2501&XACT_DEFN_ID=744
