How To Get Your Real Estate Salesperson License In Michigan

1. General Michigan Salesperson License Requirements
The general requirements for real estate salespersons defined by the Michigan Board of Real Estate Brokers and Salespersons (LARA) are as follows:
- Be at least 18 years old
- Be of good moral character

3. Additional Salesperson License Requirements in Michigan
If you meet the general requirements and have completed your required course credit hours, you will need to complete the following steps to get your Salesperson license:
- Submit request for a criminal background check
- Submit the Michigan salesperson license application
- Pass both the state and national portions of the real estate salesperson licensing examination by earning a score of 70% or higher
- Obtain sponsorship from a licensed Michigan broker
Regulatory Notes:
Obtaining Certificate of Course Completion: Upon completion of the course, Colibri Real Estate will provide you an electronic certificate of completion in your account dashboard. Completion information is also submitted weekly by Colibri Real Estate to the Board. Course completion dates are recorded using Central Standard Time, therefore that will be the time reflected on your certificate.
Roster: Rosters are emailed to the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs on a weekly basis on Tuesdays. We report completions from the previous Tuesday through Monday.

Michigan All License Requirements
Online Info
Michigan Real Estate licensees are required to take 18 hours of continuing education every 3 years. Licensees are required to complete 2 hours of legal education, and 1 hour of Fair Housing courses in each year of a license cycle. License expiration date is based on original license issue date.
*Effective 2/13/2024 real estate professionals are required to complete 1 hour of Fair Housing each year of a license cycle.

Online Limitations
Licensees can NOT receive credit for a class twice in the same renewal cycle (3 year period), however they can in consecutive cycles.
