Changes for Washington Real Estate Licensees

If you have been considering a career in Washington real estate, you know that there has never been a better time than right now to get a Washington real estate license. The housing market is beginning to stabilize and is showing some solid improvements in Washington metro areas. There is no question that the housing market will thrive once again, making now the ideal time to get the real estate training needed to qualify to take the licensing exam. Something else you should know is that there have been some changes to real estate licensing in the state of Washington.

Effective July 1, 2010 Washington State will no longer issue real estate salesperson licenses. Instead, the Washington real estate salesperson license will be replaced with a Washington real estate broker license.  For new licensees this means that the requirements for getting licensed have changed. Applicants will still need to be at least 18 years old with a high school diploma or equivalency certificate, and they will still be required to provide a complete fingerprint and background check through the FBI and Washington State Patrol. The fingerprint and background checks will need to be updated every six years for both new and current licensees.

The educational requirements have also changed. To qualify to sit for the Washington real estate broker exam you must complete a total of 90 hours of approved real estate courses including 60 hours of Real Estate Fundamentals and 30 hours of Real Estate Practices. Once these prerequisites have been met and you pass the Washington real estate broker exam, you will be issued a Washington real estate broker license.
