Mississippi Real Estate Appraiser License Requirements

The Mississippi Appraisal Board has established the minimum educational requirements for an appraisal license. The minimum educational requirements include the following:

Appraiser Trainee

  • Education: 75 hours of appraisal education, including the 15-hour USPAP
  • Experience: None required
  • College-level requirements: None required
  • Exam: None required

Licensed Real Estate Appraiser (Track One)

  • Education: 150 hours of appraisal education, including the 15-hour USPAP
  • Experience: 1,000 hours of acceptable real estate appraisal experience gained over a minimum of 6 months
  • College-level requirements: None required
  • Exam: Required

Licensed Real Estate Appraiser (Track Two)

  • Education: 150 hours of appraisal education, including the 15-hour USPAP completed within 12 months of application
  • Experience: None required
  • College-level requirements: None required
  • Exam: Required

Certified Residential Appraiser

  • Education: 200 hours of appraisal education, including the 15-hour USPAP completed within 60 months of application
  • Experience: 2,500 hours of acceptable appraisal experience gained over a minimum of 24 months
  • College-level requirements: Associate Degree or higher. In lieu of the required degree, 21 Semester credit hours in the following subject matter courses: English Composition; Economics (Micro or Macro); Finance; Algebra, Geometry, or higher mathematics; Statistics; Computer Science; Business or Real Estate Law
  • Exam: Required

Certified General Appraiser

  • Education: 300 hours of appraisal education, including the 15-hour USPAP completed within 60 months of application
  • Experience: 3,000 hours of acceptable appraisal experience gained over a minimum of 30 months
  • College-level requirements: Bachelor Degree of higher. In lieu of the required degree, 30 Semester credit hours in the following subject matter courses: English Composition; Macro Economics; Micro Economics; Finance; Algebra, Geometry, or higher mathematics; Statistic; Computer Science; Business or Real Estate Law; and 2 elective courses in Accounting, Geography, Agricultural Economics, Business Management or Real Estate
  • Exam: Required
