Illinois Real Estate State License Requirements Effective 5/1/2011 Please be sure you understand the requirements before taking the pre-license education and licensing examination. Illinois License Requirements and Qualifications: An individual who wants to obtain an Illinois broker real estate license must complete the required education, pass the licensing exam, and file an application with the required fee. Broker: To qualify for an Illinois Real Estate Broker’s license applicants must: Be at least 21 years old; Have graduated from high school or obtained the equivalent of a high school degree (GED); Education: The applicant must complete 90-class-hour Prelicense course at a real estate school approved by the Department of Financial and Professional Regulation. 75-hours can be taken online as self study. 15-hours must be taken interactively in a classroom or by webinar. Broker Continuing Education: During this transition period: If you passed the salesperson to broker proficiency test, you need 18-hours of continuing education credit by 4/30/12. If you took the 30-hour transition course, you have fulfilled your continuing education requirement and must renew your license by 4/30/12. If you received your initial license after 5/1/11, you need 12-hours of continuing education by your license renewal date. Managing Broker: To qualify for an Illinois Real Estate Managing Broker license applicants must: Be at least 21 years old; Have graduated from high school or obtained the equivalent of a high school degree (GED); and Held an active Illinois Broker license for two years. Education: The applicant must complete the 45-hour Managing Broker course. 30-hours can be taken online as self study. 15-hours must be taken interactively in a classroom or by webinar. Managing Broker Continuing Education: During this transition period: If you transitioned to managing broker by passing the proficiency exam, you must take 18-hours of continuing education plus 12-hours of Broker Management continuing education and renew your license by 4/30/13. If you transitioned from broker to managing broker by taking the 45-hour Transition course, you must take 18-hours of CE and renew your license by 4/30/13.
