Get Your Michigan Real Estate License

Michigan has not had a lot of great economic news in recent years, but for at least one industry it seems as if that is about to change. Michigan has been named one of the top five real estate markets of the future. The Detroit housing market in particular is expected to see an increase of more than 33% by 2014. In a city where unemployment is at a staggering level, there is about to be a great deal of opportunity for employment with a Michigan real estate license.

Getting a Michigan real estate license is simple; if you are at least 18 years old and of good moral character then you have already met the basic qualifications for licensure. The state of Michigan requires that new real estate license applicants complete 40 hours of approved real estate courses at an approved real estate school. Once the educational requirements have been met, the approved education provider will forward the proof of completion to the state and a copy will be sent to you for your records. Once the courses have been completed you must take the exam within 36 months or you will need to take the course again.

Applications for a Michigan real estate license are submitted online at the state of Michigan website. You will need to create an account for the Michigan iCOLA system. Once you have created your account you will complete the application and pay for your license before the state of Michigan will issue you an authorization to take the exam. The authorization email will contain your Michigan real estate license exam candidate number and the instructions for how to register for the exam.

Michigan real estate license exams are issued by PSI at one of PSI’s Examination Sites. If you included the identification number of your employing broker with your Michigan real estate license application then you will be issued a photo pocket license ID at the testing site immediately upon passing your exam. If you did not list an employing broker your license status will be pending until an Employing Broker Notification Form is received by the state. The exam must be passed within one year of application for licensure.

With unemployment rates well above the national average there are many people looking for a new career in Michigan.
